A Game Jam in celebration of David Lynch

It all begins with an idea.

Over January and into early February, a few of us took part in the “Fix Your Hearts or Die - A David Lynch Game Jam.” It was a fun chance to step away from the usual routine and make something a bit weird, a bit experimental. With the news of the passing of David Lynch, we wanted to take part in this game jam to celebrate and honor his legacy.

It was also a great excuse to watch some of his work, and play games inspired by him, including:

Big shoutout to Matthew, Holly, John, and Deez for diving in headfirst, and to Sam, Egg, and Moira for the support along the way. Couldn’t have pulled it together without the whole crew.

Our game ended up being a 2D pixel art spooky little adventure. You play as a young girl wandering through a dark farm, trying to switch the power back on in the horse barn. It’s eerie, atmospheric, and just unsettling enough to fit the Lynchian vibe.

We also want to thank the creators of the awesome assets we used:

Game jams are always a bit of a whirlwind, lots of late nights, quick decisions, and strange ideas that somehow come together at the last minute. This one was no different, and honestly, that’s what makes them so much fun. We came out of it with something we’re proud of, and more importantly, we had a great time making it.
